Job summary

St Hilda's CE High School in Grimsby is seeking a dedicated facilities and security assistant to maintain safety, cleanliness and continuous operation of school premises. The role involves opening/closing gates and buildings, responding to alarms, and coordinating with security and maintenance teams to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.

Keys duties include weekly safety testing, grounds upkeep, basic repairs, and providing a prompt response during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Opening and closing, unlocking and locking of school gates and buildings.
• Opening and closing the school for evening use at times arranged by the Headteacher.
• Responding to and resetting the school alarm, liaising with police and Alarm Company.
• Checking and securing the premises after out-of-hours intruder alarm activation.
• Register as Keyholder and be a point of contact in an emergency call-out situation.
• Overall security of the school premises including locking windows and doors and drawing blinds.
• Being called out at unsociable hours or weekends to deal with security problems or access to contractors.
• Weekly fire alarm testing, defibrillator testing, sprinkler system testing.
• Grounds maintenance including grass cutting, tree/hedge cutting, weed pulling.
• Daily litter picking and rubbish collection from grounds and around school.
• General maintenance and repair work including doors, windows, furniture, taps.
• Simple carpentry tasks and setting up seating areas for events outside school hours.
• To promote the safety and welfare of children and staff and comply with health and safety policies.
