Job summary

BUMBLEBEE EDUCATION LTD is seeking a maintenance officer to manage daily site checks and routine upkeep of a school premises. The role involves coordinating with contractors, monitoring health and safety, and ensuring the site remains secure and well-maintained.

You will oversee fire safety checks, manage access and security, and support cleaning and out-of-hours lettings or events as required.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out daily checks of the school site for hazards, damage and security issues.
• General maintenance and minor repairs - doors, windows, toilets, furniture, fittings, etc.
• Reporting larger repairs and arranging/liaising with contractors.
• Checking heating, lighting, water and other building systems.
• Carrying out routine health & safety checks.
• Fire-safety checks and supporting fire alarm/emergency-light testing.
• Checking that fire exits and escape routes remain clear.
• Maintaining school grounds - litter picking, emptying bins, sweeping and general tidying.
• Dealing with leaves, snow/ice and other outdoor hazards.
• Monitoring playgrounds and external areas.
• Moving furniture and equipment.
• Setting up and taking down rooms for assemblies, meetings, exams and events.
• Receiving, moving and distributing deliveries.
• Keeping maintenance materials and supplies stocked.
• Helping with waste and recycling.
• Assisting cleaners when necessary.
• Responding to emergencies such as leaks, flooding, spillages or other urgent site problems.
• Supervising contractors working on the premises.
• Supporting out-of-hours lettings/events where required.
• Keeping records of inspections, maintenance and safety checks.
• Using a premises/helpdesk system to log and follow up repairs.
