Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking a practical and motivated Caretaker in Newham, East London. The role supports daily upkeep of school buildings and grounds to ensure security and readiness for pupils and staff each day.

The successful candidate will maintain facilities, assist with room set-ups for lessons and events, and work closely with the site team. DBS check will be completed as part of the appointment process.

Qualifications

• Practical maintenance or caretaking experience is essential.
• Experience working in a school would be beneficial.
• Appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs.
• Open and close the school site and check security arrangements.
• Carry out daily inspections and record issues.
• Monitor heating, lighting, access points and general site conditions.
• Prepare rooms and move furniture for lessons and events.
• Maintain outdoor areas and report grounds maintenance needs.
• Liaise with contractors and arrange access when required.
• Report hazards, damage and urgent repairs to the appropriate manager.
