Version 1 is seeking a senior, SC-cleared User Researcher to lead research across complex digital services for public sector clients. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers to ensure decisions are evidence-based.

The role requires consulting with stakeholders, mentoring colleagues, and upholding the GDS Digital Service Standard throughout discovery and delivery. You will influence service strategy, foster a user-first mindset in client organisations, and strengthen

Qualifications

• 5+ years of research leadership on complex digital services in Agile environments.
• Strong knowledge of UK public sector service design, including GDS standards and GOV.UK patterns.
• End-to-end research capability from design to synthesis into actionable insights.
• Broad methodological expertise across qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Strong consultancy skills to advise on research strategy and outcomes.
• Stakeholder management with senior stakeholders and workshops.
• Proven impact demonstrated through a portfolio or case studies.
• Ethical considerations in user research, including vulnerable users.
• Inclusive design and accessibility, WCAG 2.2 familiarity.
• Experience working within Agile teams and ceremonies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver user research for complex projects, informing product, service, and strategy decisions.
• Participate in client meetings, workshops, and presentations, delivering actionable recommendations.
• Build strong client relationships by understanding needs and aligning research with business goals.
