Version 1 seeks a Senior User Researcher Consultant to shape meaningful, accessible services for Public Sector Clients. You will lead research across delivery lifecycle, guiding agile teams and prioritising work based on real user needs. You’ll mentor colleagues and promote a user-first mindset within client organisations.

This role is client-facing, ideal for leading discovery and delivery with a proven track record in applying the GDS Digital Service Standard.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a researcher in Agile environments with complex digital services.
• Strong knowledge of UK public sector service design, GOV.UK patterns, and assessment processes.
• End-to-end research capability from design to synthesis into actionable insights.
• Broad methodological expertise: qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Experience influencing senior stakeholders and guiding research strategy.
• Mentorship of junior researchers and collaboration across teams.
• Ethical considerations when researching with vulnerable users or access needs.
• Deep understanding of inclusive design and accessibility, WCAG 2.2.
• Experience working within Agile teams and ceremonies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver user research for complex projects, informing product, service, and strategy decisions.
• Engage in client meetings, workshops, and presentations to provide actionable recommendations.
• Build strong client relationships by anticipating needs and aligning research with business objectives.
• Mentor team members and upskill junior researchers, fostering a collaborative environment.
