An opportunity has arisen to join our safety team as a Safety Validation Manager. The key responsibility within this demanding role, which reports to the Head of Safety & Security, is ensuring that change is managed into the business safely by supporting project managers through the safety validation process, ensuring safety risk have been identified, controlled and evidenced. With a focus on safety assurance and ensuring actions are verified, you will have a good eye for detail and the ability to communicate at all levels, this role is likely to involve travelling across the network to visit locations where changes are being introduced. It will also involve working across all departmental functions within TransPennine Express on a broad range of Safety Validation projects.

The role will be responsible for:
  • The verification of safety validation actions relating to Change Management projects across the business, ensuring actions are being completed timely and can be evidenced accordingly.
  • The planning of site visits to locations where changes are being implemented to gain assurance that risk controls are being actioned and embedded at the appropriate time.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of Post Implementation Review sessions with Lead Managers following the introduction of a change to assess the effectiveness of the risk controls and documenting the overall success of the change.
  • Assisting with the planning and preparation of periodic Safety Validation meetings where progress on companywide projects will be discussed and tracked.
  • Assisting in the company wide promotion of the Safety Validation process to ensure consistent application.
  • Further developing Key Performance Indicators for Safety Validation and assurance activities to report into the appropriate Level 1 / 2 meetings.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Previous experience of working in a railway environment or similar high‑risk industry is desirable.
  • An understanding of hazard, risk, and evaluation and assessment processes.
  • Qualified or working towards the completion of the NEBOSH general certificate in occupational safety and health or equivalent.
  • A general knowledge of the Plan, Do, Check, Act approach to Health & Safety Management.
  • You will possess excellent written and verbal communications skills with strong time management and organisational skills and have an excellent eye for detail.
