Job summary

Octane Recruitment Limited is seeking a Roadside Technician (field-based) to provide roadside assistance for a national breakdown company. You will operate from a van, covering Leicester and surrounding areas, with 40 hours per week and varied shifts from 6am to 12am.

The role offers overtime, a bonus scheme, and a competitive base salary with OTE above £60,000, plus progression and benefits. A full UK driving licence is essential and your safety and customer service standards are paramount.

Qualifications

• Must have Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or Level 3 qualification.
• Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification hands-on vehicle experience.
• Customer-focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess faults quickly.
• Carry out roadside repairs (battery, wheels, minor engine).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible.
• Advise members on next steps and recovery if needed.
• Work safely in varied environments.

Job description

Roadside Technician (field-based) providing roadside assistance for a national breakdown company with over 15 million members. Great salary, benefits, overtime and bonus opportunities.

Location: Leicester

Pay / salary: £36,400 OTE: OTE: In Excess of £60,000, opportunity to earn 70-80k+

Job type: Permanent / full-time role

Shift and schedule for the Roadside Technician role

40 hours per week between 6am and 12am, Monday to Sunday. Shifts are known 12 months in advance. Flexi overtime at x1.5 and/or optional fixed overtime at £30 per hour. All hours start and stop from home as soon as you start the van.

Job Responsibilities for the Roadside Technician role

• Attend roadside breakdowns and assess vehicle faults quickly and accurately.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs at the roadside, including battery replacements, wheel changes, and minor engine fixes.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify issues and determine repair options.
• Provide temporary solutions when full repair isn't possible, ensuring member mobility.
• Advise members clearly on next steps, including recovery if needed.
• Work safely and efficiently in varied environments and conditions.

What you'll need to be considered for the Roadside Technician role

• Must have a minimum Level 2 qualification in light vehicle maintenance and repair, or ideally a Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair qualification (City & Guilds, IMI, NVQ, or equivalent).
• Must have a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification hands-on experience with vehicles, either in a workshop or a mobile vehicle role.

• Must have a full UK driving licence - max 6 points, no bans.
