Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Road Safety and Traffic Engineer to join the Highways and Public Realm team in Hereford. The role focuses on TRO development, road safety initiatives, and delivering projects to improve the safety and efficiency of the highway network.

The position is 37 hours per week, for an 18‑month fixed term, with a salary of £37,563 to £42,123 per annum. We offer LGPS, generous leave, flexible working, and clear career progression.

Qualifications

• Educated to HNC/HND (Level 4) or equivalent.
• Experience in Road Safety and Traffic Management roles.
• Experience delivering Road Safety schemes and Traffic Regulation Orders.
• Experience developing, managing and monitoring large schedules of work.
• Accurate designs using AutoCAD, GIS and MapInfo.
• Ability to write detailed reports and present to the public.
• Positive, proactive and professional approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice to officers, councillors, developers, partners and stakeholders to shape highway operations.
• Design and deliver road safety and traffic management initiatives across Herefordshire.
• Identify and develop transport solutions and manage projects through to completion.
• Contribute to the safe and efficient movement of road users and maximise infrastructure value.
