Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Senior Road Safety and Traffic Engineer to join the Highways and Public Realm team. You will lead on TRO development, policy shaping and traffic management initiatives.

As a senior, you’ll head a small team, provide technical guidance to officers and partners, and use data-driven approaches to improve highway safety and network performance. This permanent role offers a competitive HC09 salary and generous benefits, with flexible working and opportunities to

Qualifications

Degree in Engineering or related field or substantial work experience.
ICE membership or other professional body with Chartered/Incorporated status.
Knowledge of highway legislation including key acts listed in job spec.
Experience in a management role and a can-do attitude for service improvements.
Knowledge of road safety and traffic engineering techniques.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and related packages (Signplot, KeyLINE, KeySIGN).
Ability to organise workload and supervise a team.

Responsibilities

Lead TRO development, implementation and review to support policy goals.
Lead and develop a team of Traffic Engineers with clear direction.
Oversee design and implementation of traffic management and road safety initiatives.
Apply data/evidence-led approaches to improve highway safety and network performance.
