Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Senior Road Safety and Traffic Engineer to lead the Road Safety and Traffic Engineering team. You will provide expert technical advice to officers, councillors and partners, and drive the development and review of Traffic Regulation Orders to support council transport, safety and place-shaping goals.

You will lead a small team of Traffic Engineers, giving clear direction and technical guidance to ensure successful delivery of programmes.

Qualifications

• Degree level or equivalent in Engineering or related field, or substantial work experience.
• ICE membership or equivalent professional body and Chartered or Incorporated status.
• Knowledge of highway legislation including Highways Act 1980, and Traffic Acts.
• Experience in a management role with a track record of service improvements.
• Knowledge/experience of road safety and traffic engineering techniques.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and associated packages.
• Ability to organise own workload and lead the team.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice to officers, councillors, partners and stakeholders.
• Lead development, implementation and review of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
• Develop policy and ensure traffic measures support wider transport and safety objectives.
• Lead and develop a team of Traffic Engineers with clear direction and governance.
• Oversee design and delivery of traffic management and road safety initiatives using data-led approaches.
