Job summary

Herefordshire Council is seeking a Senior Road Safety and Traffic Engineer to lead a small team, provide expert technical advice and drive TRO development and policy. You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance highway safety and network performance.

The role focuses on delivering traffic management, road safety initiatives and evidence-based improvements for the community. A permanent contract with a competitive salary awaits.

Qualifications

• Degree level in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• ICE membership or Chartered/Incorporated status.
• Solid knowledge of highway legislation (Highways Act 1980, Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Traffic Management Act 2004).
• Experience in a management role with a can-do attitude.
• Knowledge/experience of road safety and traffic engineering techniques.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert technical advice to officers, councillors and partners.
• Lead development, implementation and review of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
• Lead and develop a team of Traffic Engineers with clear direction.
• Oversee design and implementation of traffic management and road safety initiatives.
• Use data-led approaches to improve highway safety and network performance.
