Job summary

Spotify is seeking a Staff Data Engineer for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain to define the long-term data engineering strategy and build scalable data platforms. You will partner with product, engineering, data science, analytics, and platform teams to translate complex challenges into durable data solutions and lead architectural decisions across squads.

You will mentor engineers, drive data quality and governance, and help shape the roadmap to support the company’s growth to one

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Deep experience building reliable distributed data pipelines using modern cloud-native tools.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, governance, and quality practices.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term data engineering strategy for the Subscriptions User Understanding domain, identifying opportunities to improve scalability, reliability, and business impact.
• Design scalable batch and streaming data platforms powering analytics, experimentation, ML, and subscriber experiences.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, and Platform teams to translate complex business problems into durable data solutions.
• Lead architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices for data quality, governance, observability, reliability, and operational excellence across squads.
• Design data models and platform architecture to support growth toward one billion users with balanced performance and cost.
• Simplify systems, reduce debt, and improve developer experience across the data ecosystem.
• Mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of thoughtful engineering and continuous improvement.
