Band 5 - Registered Mental Health Nurse - Inpatient Older Adult

Are you a Mental Health Nurse (RMN) looking for a new opportunity to work in an organisation that will help you develop and achieve your goals to become the best you can be? If so, you're in luck.

Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust has an opportunity to join our Older Adults and Dementia Mental Health Baswich Ward at St Georges Hospital Stafford.

Baswich Ward is an assessment ward mainly covering South Staffordshire. Sometimes we have patients from other areas. We provide care for males and females with possible or diagnosed organic mental illnesses such as dementia.

Main duties of the job
  • Delivering a high quality clinical service to patients and their families.
  • Acting as named nurse to a group of patients under the direction / supervision of the person identified with continuing responsibility.
  • Participating in therapeutic group work programmes.
  • Taking charge of the ward in the absence of the ward manager and deputy ward manager.
  • You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and contributing to; the formulation of the person's needs and the development of a relevant plan based upon the person's negotiated goals and relevant evidence based interventions.
  • You will, in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team, provide nursing interventions to support the person to meet their agreed goals and coordinate and/ or participate in the review of progress towards those goals, utilising recommended outcome measures, involving the service user and any identified carer throughout the clinical pathway.

Qualifications
  • Qualified & Registered Mental Health Nurse and is active on NMC Register
  • Conforms to NMC requirements
Experience
  • Experience of formulating assessments, planning, co-ordinating and supporting people within a hospital setting.
  • Experience of providing care and interventions within a health setting including specialist mental health settings.
  • Experience of working in an Older Adults in-patient ward
  • Previous experience working with older adults in mental health services.
Skills
  • Demonstrate working knowledge/understanding of evidence based practice.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate complex mental health conditions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the need for multi-disciplinary working and an ability to work across professional boundaries.
  • Ability to use own initiative, to enable contribution to a multi-disciplinary team approach.
