Job summary

SGS-Care-Ltd in Newmarket leads a specialist 2-bed children's residential home within a wider mental health service. You will oversee operations, ensure high care standards, regulatory compliance and positive outcomes for every young person.

The Registered Manager role requires strategic leadership, development of care plans, staff supervision and collaboration with families, clinicians and education professionals. Ofsted readiness is implied.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Diploma in Children's Residential Care (essential)
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (preferred; enrol within six months)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive, individualised care plans across education, emotional wellbeing, therapeutic input, health, social and cultural needs
  • Build, recruit, develop and retain a stable, motivated and high-performing staff team
  • Lead care planning, reviews and key worker systems
  • Promote safeguarding, manage complaints and child protection matters effectively

Registered Manager – Children's Residential Home

Location: Newmarket

Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Welcome Bonus: £10,000 (paid upon successful Ofsted Fit Person's Interview / registration)

OTE Bonus: Up to £10,000 annual Quality & Commercial Bonus

Service Users

Children and young people aged 12–18 years with mental health needs, requiring specialist support due to mental illness and/or significant risks of self-injurious behaviours.

Qualifications Required
  • Level 3 Diploma in Children's Residential Care (essential)
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (preferred). If not already achieved, you must enrol within six months of starting.
Experience Required
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience within children's residential care.
  • At least 1 year in a managerial or supervisory role within the last 5 years.
  • Strong understanding of The Quality Standards, SCCIF, childcare legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, including managing challenging behaviour.
  • Strong planning, organisational, budget management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
The Home

This is a specialist 2-bed children's home based within the Merida Specialist Mental Health Service in Newmarket. The home provides highly specialised residential care for young people with complex mental health needs who require additional support due to mental illness and significant risks of self-harm and self-injurious behaviours.

Working as part of a wider multidisciplinary service, you'll collaborate closely with an on-site school, clinical team and education professionals to support young people in achieving the goals within their care plans and successfully transitioning to the next stage of their journey.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced Registered Manager who is passionate about transforming the lives of children and young people through exceptional leadership and therapeutic care.

You will be responsible for leading all aspects of the home's operation, ensuring outstanding care standards, regulatory compliance and positive outcomes for every young person.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive, individualised care plans covering education, emotional wellbeing, therapeutic input, health, social and cultural needs.
  • Build, recruit, develop and retain a stable, motivated and high-performing staff team.
  • Allocate and oversee effective Key Worker relationships.
  • Maintain outstanding standards in line with The Quality Standards and the home's Statement of Purpose.
  • Develop systems that actively involve young people in decisions about their care.
  • Work collaboratively with families, carers, clinicians, teachers and external professionals.
  • Manage safeguarding concerns, complaints and child protection matters effectively.
  • Lead care planning, reviews and key worker systems.
  • Promote a safe, therapeutic culture where children receive the highest standards of care.
  • Manage the home's budgets and commercial performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement with the expectation of achieving at least a Good Ofsted judgement, with Outstanding as the long-term goal.
