Job description

Location: Northern England (field-based) - ideally Manchester to Leeds based

The Opportunity

Our client is a fast-growing, independent orthopaedic and surgical distributor. They partner with a carefully chosen group of innovative international suppliers and are known for deep procedural knowledge, clinical education and a genuinely close relationship with the surgeons they serve.

Following continued growth, they are expanding their Sports Medicine team and are looking for an ambitious Regional Sales Manager to own and develop the North of England.

This is a genuine leadership opportunity. You will work with the leadership team to recruit, develop and inspire a high-performing team, set the regional strategy and be accountable for results, with the freedom to shape how the team is structured and how it wins. You will stay close to the customer, but your impact will come primarily through the people you lead.

The Role:
  • Build, lead and develop a regional sales team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching and performance management
  • Own regional commercial performance, setting targets, tracking delivery and holding the team accountable to revenue and market share goals
  • Develop and execute the regional strategy, including territory design, account prioritisation and growth planning
  • Coach the team in theatre and in the field, building clinical credibility, selling skills and procedural expertise
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with key surgeons, hospital leaders and NHS and private sector decision makers, supporting your team on strategic accounts and opportunities
  • Oversee tenders, product evaluations and contract renewals in partnership with internal commercial teams
  • Run regular pipeline reviews, forecasting and CRM discipline across the team
  • Work closely with supplier partners and colleagues across the business to align on launches, training and strategy
  • Champion surgeon education, including courses, training events and congresses
  • Feed back market intelligence, competitor activity and customer insight to shape portfolio and commercial decisions
  • Act as a role model for the company’s values and culture
About you:
  • Proven experience leading or managing a sales team in orthopaedics, sports medicine or a closely related medical device environment
  • A track record of building, developing and retaining high-performing teams, and of delivering results through others
  • Strong grounding in the UK sports medicine or orthopaedic market, with credibility at surgeon and theatre level
  • Solid understanding of the NHS and private hospital landscape, including procurement frameworks and tender processes
  • Commercial acumen, with the ability to build a regional plan and drive execution against it
  • Excellent communication, coaching and influencing skills
  • Based in the North of England (ideally Manchester, Leeds or Sheffield), with flexibility to travel across the region
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience with arthroscopy, cartilage and meniscus repair, soft tissue or ligament reconstruction, shoulder or biologics
  • Experience building a team from scratch or expanding a region
  • An established network of surgeon and hospital relationships in the North
  • Degree or equivalent in a scientific, clinical or business discipline
What’s on offer
  • Competitive base salary with a performance-related bonus or commission structure
  • Pension, healthcare and a comprehensive benefits package
  • Genuine scope to progress as the business continues to scale
  • A collaborative, people-focused culture with real investment in training and development
  • Ongoing clinical and leadership development, including hands-on surgical education
