Job summary

Citizens Advice Ltd is seeking an accredited Generalist Adviser to support refugees and asylum seekers in Hemel Hempstead. The role involves advising clients across welfare benefits, debt, housing, family, employment and immigration (Level 1) by telephone, email and in person, including outreach work.

The successful candidate will have an empathetic telephone manner, good IT skills and at least 6 months of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Accredited Citizens Advice Generalist Adviser (Level 1) with relevant experience.
• At least 6 months’ experience advising clients across welfare benefits, debt, housing, family, employment and immigration (Level 1).
• Experience supporting Refugees and Asylum Seekers is desirable.
• Able to work by telephone, email and in person in Hemel Hempstead, including outreach locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice to clients across all areas via telephone, email and in-person.
• Assist with Benefit Checks and welfare rights for refugees and asylum seekers.
• Maintain accurate case records and follow Citizens Advice protocols.

About the role

We are looking for an accredited Citizens Advice Generalist Adviser, ideally with at least 6 months experience of supporting clients in all advice areas including welfare benefits (including Benefit Checks), debt, housing, family, employment, consumer and immigration (to Level 1) and all aspects of settling in the UK.

This role is supporting Refugees and Asylum Seekers across Hertfordshire by telephone, email and in person in Hemel Hempstead at our offices and at outreach location/s.

The successful candidate will be empathetic to the particular needs of this client group and have an excellent telephone manner and good IT skills, happy to work via three way calls with professional interpreters where needed, to support clients over the telephone, email with a broad range of issues.
