Job summary

Biffa Group is seeking a Contract Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations at Somerset Recycling Centres from Priorswood Depot, Taunton. You will supervise site teams, manage resources and ensure service delivery meets client requirements in a hands-on role.

The role combines site-based activity with administration, reporting and people management across the contract, focusing on safety, efficiency and customer service.

Qualifications

• Experience managing local authority contracts within recycling, waste management or similar.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety, environmental and transport legislation relevant to recycling centres.
• Proven experience leading large teams and developing staff.
• Ability to plan, resource and budget for operations and maintenance.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills across all levels.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations across Somerset Recycling Centres to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Lead, support and motivate Site Managers, operatives and agency staff; manage staffing and performance.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental legislation, permits and Biffa procedures.
• Plan staff, agency resources, equipment and budgets within approved limits.
• Drive recycling performance and operational efficiency in line with legislation.
• Coordinate maintenance with Facilities Management; keep plant and equipment safe and operational.
• Maintain strong relationships with client, customers, contractors, regulators and the public.
