Supply Desk in Little Chalfont is seeking a confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support teaching and learning in a welcoming school. You will lead lessons in the absence of the class teacher and work with pupils across a range of abilities to ensure engagement and progress.

The role requires a Level 3 qualification and strong classroom management, safeguarding awareness, and DBS checks. October 2026 start; closing date 5 October 2026; salary MPS/UPS.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of effective teaching strategies and classroom practice.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to lead learning activities and provide whole-class support.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging learning activities across the curriculum.
  • Lead lessons when the class teacher is absent and keep pupils engaged.
  • Adapt activities to meet diverse learning needs and SEN requirements.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, giving constructive feedback.
  • Support pupils' confidence, independence, behaviour, and social skills.
  • Collaborate with staff to implement individual learning plans and interventions.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment and prepare resources.

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking for your next opportunity? We are seeking a confident and dedicated HLTA to join a welcoming and supportive school, where you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning, delivering engaging activities, and helping pupils achieve their full potential.


Key Responsibilities


  • Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive, and effective learning activities across the curriculum.

  • Lead lessons and learning activities in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring pupils remain engaged and supported.

  • Work with pupils across a range of abilities, adapting activities and approaches to meet individual learning needs.

  • Provide targeted support to pupils who require additional assistance with their learning, including pupils with SEN where appropriate.

  • Monitor, assess, and record pupils' progress, providing constructive feedback to support their development.

  • Support pupils with developing their confidence, independence, behaviour, and social skills.

  • Work closely with teachers and other support staff to implement individual learning plans, interventions, and strategies.

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment that encourages participation and achievement.

  • Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources, displays, and learning materials.

  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues, and other professionals within the school community.

  • Contribute to wider school activities, enrichment opportunities, and extracurricular activities where required.

  • Follow school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, behaviour management, health and safety, and child protection requirements.


Requirements


  • A relevant Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent is desirable.

  • Strong understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies and classroom practice.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.

  • The confidence and ability to lead learning activities and provide whole-class support when required.

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to promote positive behaviour.

  • A proactive, flexible, and supportive approach to working as part of a school team.

  • A commitment to supporting pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.

  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

  • A current enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
