Job summary

TXM Recruit is helping a client in the rail sector to appoint an experienced Training & Competency Assessor. The role focuses on assessing and developing the technical competence of the workforce to meet rail standards, with emphasis on audit-ready records and ongoing skills development.

The successful candidate will collaborate with operational teams, line managers and HR to identify training needs, create competency plans and update materials in line with regulatory changes.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant mechanical or technical discipline.
• Recognised assessor qualification, such as CAVA, A1 or D32, or willingness to work towards one.
• Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
• At least three years’ knowledge of rail fleets and technical fleet maintenance.
• At least two years’ experience assessing work within a structured and auditable framework.

Responsibilities

• Assess employees’ technical knowledge and practical competence against relevant rail industry standards.
• Provide feedback, guidance and support to learners to help them achieve required qualifications and competency levels.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date training and competency records and management systems.
• Identify skills gaps and work with managers to develop appropriate training and competency plans.
• Develop, review and update training materials and assessment processes in line with changing rail industry standards.
• Support operational teams in maintaining workforce competence, safety and compliance.
• Ensure assessment and quality assurance processes are consistent, effective and audit-ready.
• Monitor changes to rail regulations, standards and legislation, implementing updates where required.
• Collaborate with assessors, trainers, internal quality teams and HR to share best practice and drive continuous improvement.
• Support the ongoing development of the business’s training and competency management systems.
