Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Consultant to lead safety risk and reliability activities within our rail safety team. You will drive hazard analyses, safety cases and assurance work across complex rail projects, coordinating with clients and independent assessors.

The role focuses on safety governance, regulatory compliance and evolving technologies in rail, with opportunities to shape robust safety cases and deliver high-integrity safety outcomes across the rail value chain.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional registration is required.
• Proven experience leading safety and risk assessment programmes in rail projects.
• Strong understanding of safety assurance activities for rail Authorisation for Placing into Service.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of defined safety assurance tasks and small projects to time, cost and quality.
• Deliver system safety activities including hazard identification and risk assessment (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, FMECA, FTA).
• Chair and facilitate safety workshops with clients, partners and technical specialists.
• Coordinate and implement technical safety and risk engineering activities, including safety case development and safety justifications.
• Support clients adopting new technologies and respond to strategic rail challenges (decarbonisation, digitalisation, climate resilience).
• Collaborate with Independent Safety Assessors / AsBo to prepare safety evidence and responses to findings.
