Job summary

Arup is seeking an Associate in Safety Risk & System Assurance – Rail to lead rail safety assurance work, manage risk across complex systems and deliver value for clients. The role emphasizes leadership, mentoring and shaping safety strategy across projects and programmes.

The candidate will build senior client relationships, drive capability development in rail safety risk, and ensure compliance with UK/European standards while delivering proportionate, evidence-led assurance and robust

Qualifications

Candidate is Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with membership of a relevant professional institution (IET, IMechE, SARS).
Degree in engineering, mathematics, science or related discipline required or equivalent experience.
Significant experience in rail safety programmes; leading safety cases and justifications.

Responsibilities

Lead safety assurance and risk work on rail projects or major work packages.
Own hazard identification, safety case development and assurance planning across lifecycle stages.
Engage with ISA/AsBo and manage independent assurance interfaces.
Develop client relationships and shape scope and delivery, protecting outcomes and commercial performance.
Lead and mentor teams, contributing to capability development in rail safety risk.
