Job summary

Mott MacDonald in the UK is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead the Rail Stations and Civil Engineering team. You will drive technical delivery for major rail improvement and renewal projects, mentor junior engineers, and shape the UK rail civil engineering practice with a focus on safety, quality and client outcomes.

You will work within a hybrid model, collaborating with clients, authorities, and design partners while developing the local rail engineering community across the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with ICE or equivalent.
• Experience as Contractor’s Responsible Engineer on rail projects in detailed design and design-and-build.
• Excellent understanding of railway structures, stations, bridges and rail systems.
• Strong communication, leadership and influencing skills.
• Experience mentoring engineers and developing technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of rail civil engineering projects across the UK with emphasis on technical excellence.
• Prepare, review and deliver high-quality engineering solutions that are safe, practical and sustainable.
• Promote knowledge sharing within the rail civil engineering team.
• Support multidisciplinary design teams ensuring integration across disciplines.
• Identify and mitigate project risks with effective solutions.
• Assist project managers in achieving programme, budget and quality objectives.
• Collaborate with business development to identify new opportunities.
• Develop strong stakeholder relationships with clients and authorities.
• Mentor and develop Early Career Professionals to maintain technical excellence.
