Job summary

Mott MacDonald, a global engineering consultancy, seeks a Principal Design Manager to lead the design, integration and delivery of rail civil engineering projects in the UK. You will shape the local rail civil engineering team and embed technical excellence across multi-disciplinary projects.

The role emphasizes mentoring, client liaison, and delivering high-profile station and transport infrastructure schemes with a focus on design and build delivery. Hybrid working is supported.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with ICE or equivalent.
• Extensive UK rail sector experience in multi-discipline projects with governance knowledge.
• Proven experience leading technical delivery on complex rail infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of rail civil engineering projects across the UK with integrated design solutions.
• Coordinate input from multiple rail design engineers and specialists.
• Deliver safe, practical, sustainable engineering solutions for clients.
• Act as a focal point for clients for technical delivery of projects.
• Develop relationships with stakeholders and partners to secure outcomes.
• Mentor and develop early career professionals and team members.
