Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 5 Radiographer to join our patient‑centred team of friendly Radiology staff at Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

The department has four general rooms, two CT scanners, two MRI scanners, ultrasound, mammography, nuclear medicine and interventional departments. We have replaced all our CR equipment within the hospital and at our satellite site with new Samsung DR units.

Royal Glamorgan Hospital has a major accident and emergency unit and is a regional diagnostic hub with a significant role in early diagnostics and ambulatory care. You will be involved in delivering the single cancer pathway where GP CXRs are hot‑reported, providing the patient their results while they are in the department. This significantly reduces the referral‑to‑treatment time for the patient.

There are two full‑time positions available, one permanent and one fixed‑term until 30th November 2026 to cover a secondment. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

The successful applicant will work in all aspects of General Radiography including x‑ray, fluoroscopy, theatre and mobiles, dental imaging and will also perform non‑contrast CT studies.

The post holder will be required to work without direct supervision but will report to the senior/Superintendent Radiographer within the department. They will adhere to Radiology guidelines and operating procedures.

You will participate in the Radiology Directorate shift system which involves a mix of 12‑hour day and night duties and 7.5‑hour shifts. This post is based at Royal Glamorgan Hospital and you will rotate to our satellite site, Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda which has GP and outpatient services along with a busy minor injuries unit. You may also be required to attend other sites within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Good communication skills are essential to ensure an effective and safe service to the patients in our care. The successful candidate will be required to liaise with staff across the Health Board.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This is not fluency, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
