Job summary

Energy Jobline CVL is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor delivering projects around Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, and surrounding areas. The role focuses on commercial management from tender through final account and requires a strong NEC contract knowledge and cost control expertise.

You will manage multiple projects, produce CVRs, valuations, and final accounts while supporting procurement and stakeholder negotiations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering and groundworks.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor delivering projects across Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, and the surrounding areas. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused professional with a strong background in civils and groundworks to take ownership of multiple projects from tender through to final account.

The successful candidate will play a key role in managing project costs, maximising profitability, and ensuring commercial success while working closely with operational teams, clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the commercial aspects of civil engineering and groundworks projects.

Prepare, review, and negotiate subcontract agreements.

Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts, and CVRs.

Measure and value works completed on site.

Prepare and submit applications for payment.

Assess and manage subcontractor payments and variations.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering and groundworks.

Strong understanding of NEC and other standard forms of contract.

Experience working on projects involving:

Earthworks

Drainage

Foundations

Roads and Highways

Infrastructure Works

Utilities

External Works

Strong commercial and contractual awareness.

Experience producing CVRs, valuations, variations, and final accounts.

Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and commercial management systems.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.

Experience working for a specialist groundworks or civil engineering contractor.

Working knowledge of NEC contracts.

Membership of RICS or studying towards professional qualification
