Job summary

Linear Recruitment Ltd is seeking a qualified Quantity Surveyor to join a civil engineering client. The successful candidate will manage commercial aspects across projects from tender to completion, working with project managers, site teams, clients and subcontractors to ensure profitable delivery.

The role requires experience in earthworks/groundworks and a solid understanding of contracts and estimation. A relevant QS qualification is desirable, with opportunities for progression and continued

Qualifications

• Experience as a Quantity Surveyor in earthworks, groundworks or civil engineering.
• Strong understanding of contracts and commercial management.
• Experience measuring and valuing earthworks and related works.
• Good commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while supporting the project team.
• Practical understanding of site operations and construction methods.
• Proficient with Excel and estimating/QS software.

Job description

We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our civil engineering client. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the commercial aspects of a wide range of Civil Engineering projects from tender through to completion.

The role

You will be responsible for the commercial management of a range of projects, working closely with project managers, site teams, clients and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered profitably and in accordance with contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing projects from tender stage through to final account
• Preparing and reviewing valuations, applications for payment and payment notices
• Monitoring project costs, budgets and cash flow
• Preparing and agreeing variations, compensation events and final accounts
• Procuring and managing subcontractors and suppliers
• Reviewing subcontractor applications and payments
• Preparing monthly cost/value reports and forecasts
• Identifying commercial risks and opportunities
• Supporting the project team with contract and commercial matters
• Maintaining accurate records of costs, quantities and project changes
• Liaising with clients, consultants and other project stakeholders

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within earthworks, groundworks, civil engineering or construction
• Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial management
• Experience with measuring and valuing earthworks and associated works
• Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
• Strong negotiation and communication skills
• Ability to work independently while supporting the wider project team
• A practical understanding of site operations and construction methodology
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating/QS software

A relevant qualification such as HNC/HND, degree or professional QS qualification is desirable, although strong practical experience will also be considered.
