Job summary

Grant Thornton UK is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to join our Public Sector Audit team, focusing on oversight and resolution of local government and NHS audit matters. You will lead complaints handling, objections, and whistleblowing processes, working with regulators, auditees and internal teams to ensure robust, evidence-based outcomes.

You’ll bring ACA/ACCA or equivalent, solid local government/public sector audit experience, and strong written and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent).
• Local government or public sector audit experience.
• Knowledge of the LAAA 2014 and the National Audit Code.
• Strong written communication and analytical skills.
• Confident stakeholder and relationship management.
• Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously.
• A curiosity about public accountability and a commitment to the public interest are essential.
• Experience in regulatory, legal, or complaints environment.
• Familiarity with audit quality and oversight frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead the management and resolution of complaints relating to local audit work, ensuring robust, evidence-based responses.
• Manage end-to-end local elector objections to audited accounts, coordinating with audit teams and producing written decisions.
• Act as a key contact for whistleblowing disclosures, triage and investigation per policy and standards.
• Respond to matters raised by electors and others under auditing standards, coordinating follow-up within statutory timescales.
• Develop internal guidance and policies on these processes and support training across the local audit practice.
• Represent Grant Thornton externally in formal correspondence and in meetings with regulators and audited bodies.
