Job description

If you’re a Psychology graduate who loves understanding how people learn, behave and communicate, this trainee role is a brilliant way to turn your studies into hands‑on, meaningful experience.

We’re supporting a welcoming SEN school that’s looking for a calm, thoughtful and curious graduate to join their team as a Trainee Teaching Assistant. You don’t need school experience yet. What matters most is your empathy, patience and willingness to learn.

What you’ll be doing
  • Supporting pupils with autism, ADHD and social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Working 1:1 and in small groups to help pupils regulate emotions, stay engaged and build confidence
  • Applying what you know from your psychology studies to understand behaviour, triggers and communication styles
  • Helping pupils develop routines, independence and social skills
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and therapists to keep support consistent
  • Celebrating every small step forward, because those are the ones that matter
Why this is perfect for Psychology graduates
  • You’ll gain direct experience in behaviour, cognition and emotional development
  • You’ll see your academic knowledge in action, every single day
  • It’s ideal preparation for future careers in educational psychology, mental health, therapy or teaching
  • You’ll learn practical strategies used by SEN professionals and pastoral teams
What the school is looking for
  • A calm, patient graduate with a genuine interest in supporting young people
  • Someone who enjoys building relationships and communicating clearly
  • A reflective, curious approach and a willingness to try new strategies
  • Experience with children or young people is helpful, not essential
  • A team player who brings warmth and consistency to each day
Why join Protocol Education?
  • Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella fees
  • Free CPD, including autism awareness, behaviour support and safeguarding
  • A friendly consultant who supports you throughout your journey
  • A clear pathway into SEN, education, pastoral support or further study
  • A school environment where you’ll genuinely make a difference
