Job summary

FirstGroup plc is seeking a NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy Wells Depot team. You'll diagnose faults, perform mechanical repairs, and carry out servicing and road tests to keep vehicles safe and reliable.

The role offers a 39-hour week with a shift pattern (6am-2pm, 10am-6pm) and a £3,000 joining bonus. A driving licence and PSV/HGV experience are preferred; ex-forces with engineering apprenticeships are welcome.

Qualifications

• NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience on PSV/HGV preferred.
• UK driving licence required.
• Attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs.
• Complete scheduled servicing and routine inspections.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries.
• Road test vehicles and ensure accurate documentation.

Position: PSV/HGV Mechanic

Location: Wells Depot, Priory Road, Wells, BA5 1SZ

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus WellsDepot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £19.70 per hour
• Minimum 39 hours per week
• Approx. £ 39,951 per annum
• Monday 6am-2pm, Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm
• £3,000 JOINING BONUS!

In this hands-on role, you’ll keep vehicles running safely andreliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You’ll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You’ll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
