Job summary

FirstGroup plc is hiring a NVQ/SVQ Level 3 PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy First Bus Lowestoft Depot. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, replace parts, and complete servicing and preventative maintenance to keep vehicles safe and reliable.

The role includes on‑road breakdown response, road testing as needed, and accurate documentation to meet safety standards. A joining bonus applies and weekend hours are included.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience working on HGV or PSV vehicles.
• Valid UK driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs.
• Replace parts as needed and perform scheduled servicing.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries; road test vehicles when required.
• Complete documentation in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

PSV/HGV Mechanic

Location

Lowestoft Depot, Gas works Road, Lowestoft, NR32 1UZ

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Lowestoft Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £21.55 per hour
• Weekend premium rate of £22.19 per hour
• Minimum 39 hours per week
• Approx. £43,703 per annum
• 5 days over 7 (including weekends)
• Rotation of early and late shifts
• £2,000 JOINING BONUS!

In this hands‑on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
