Job summary

FirstGroup plc in the UK is seeking a PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the Olive Grove Depot in Sheffield. You will diagnose faults, carry out repairs, servicing and maintenance to keep fleet running safely.

The role requires NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in vehicle maintenance, PSV/HGV experience is preferred, and a valid UK driving licence. This hands-on position operates 4 on 4 off early shifts and offers competitive hourly pay.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform mechanical repairs and parts replacement.
• Carry out scheduled servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries; road test vehicles as needed.

PSV/HGV Mechanic

We are now looking for an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Sheffield Olive Grove Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £21.61 per hour
• Minimum 38.5 hours per week
• Approx. £43,263 per annum
• 4 on 4 off - early shift

In this hands‑on role, you’ll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You’ll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You’ll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
