Job summary

FirstGroup plc in Ipswich is hiring an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy First Bus Ipswich Depot. You'll diagnose faults, carry out repairs, servicing and road tests, ensuring vehicles stay safe and compliant.

The role offers 39 hours per week with a rotation of early and late shifts, a weekend premium, and a £2,000 joining bonus. A UK driving licence and PSV/HGV experience are desirable. Ex-forces with engineering backgrounds are welcome.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience on HGV or PSV preferred.
• Valid UK driving licence required.
• Background checks will be conducted as part of the recruitment process.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs and replacements.
• Carry out scheduled servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Road test vehicles and document work in line with regulations and safety standards.

Position: PSV/HGV Mechanic

Location: Ipswich, IP4 1AD

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Ipswich Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details:

• £21.12 per hour
• Weekend premium rate of £22.19 per hour
• Minimum 39 hours per week
• Approx. £42,831 per annum
• 5 days over 7
• Rotation of early and late shifts: 07:00-15:00 one week then 12:00-20:00 the next week
• £2,000 JOINING BONUS!

In this hands-on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
