Job summary

Smile Education are recruiting a PRU Behaviour Mentor to work in an Oldham PRU provision with secondary pupils who may struggle to engage in mainstream lessons. You will support pupils one-to-one and in small groups, helping them regulate behaviour and re-engage with learning.

PRU Behaviour Mentor
Oldham
£100–£130 per day | September start | Long-term

Smile Education are recruiting for a PRU Behaviour Mentor to work within a PRU provision at a secondary school in Oldham.

This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, challenging behaviour, trauma backgrounds or barriers to learning.

The Role

As a PRU Behaviour Mentor, you will support secondary-aged pupils who may struggle to engage in mainstream lessons. You will work closely with teaching, pastoral and behaviour teams to help pupils regulate behaviour, access learning and build positive routines.

The role will involve one-to-one support, small-group intervention, behaviour mentoring, restorative conversations and supporting pupils to re-engage with education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs.
  • Work with pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis.
  • Help students regulate behaviour and remain engaged in learning.
  • Support pupils at risk of exclusion or repeated behaviour concerns.
  • Use calm, consistent and restorative behaviour strategies.
  • Assist with reflection, reintegration and intervention work.
  • Build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Support classroom routines, transitions and pupil engagement.
  • Record behaviour, engagement and intervention notes where required.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
Requirements
  • Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour is essential.
  • Experience in a PRU, alternative provision, SEMH, SEND, behaviour support, pastoral, youth work, mentoring, coaching, care or residential setting is desirable.
  • You must be confident working with pupils who may present challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
  • You should be calm, resilient, reliable and professional.
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills are essential.
  • You must be able to build trust with pupils while maintaining high expectations.
  • Graduates with Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Education or Youth Work backgrounds may also be considered where they have relevant experience with young people.
  • You must hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
Pay and Benefits
  • £100–£130 per day, paid weekly.
