Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a resilient Behaviour Mentor to support pupils with SEMH needs across East London. The role covers PRUs, alternative provisions and mainstream settings, with permanent, long-term, and temporary positions available.

You will work with schools in Tower Hamlets, Newham, and surrounding boroughs, providing mentoring, building relationships, and implementing behaviour plans while collaborating with SENCOs and staff.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching or support work is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring for pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that support engagement, attendance and emotional wellbeing.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and restorative approaches to help pupils regulate their emotions.
  • Support pupils in developing social skills, resilience, confidence and positive learning behaviours.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and external agencies to promote positive outcomes.

Are you a resilient and motivated Behaviour Mentor looking to make a positive impact in the lives of children and young people across East London?

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a wide range of mainstream schools, specialist provisions, SEND schools and alternative settings across Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Havering and surrounding boroughs. We are seeking dedicated professionals to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour and barriers to learning in PRUs, alternative provisions and specialist settings.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring for pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that support engagement, attendance and emotional wellbeing.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and restorative approaches to help pupils regulate their emotions.
  • Support pupils in developing social skills, resilience, confidence and positive learning behaviours.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to create a safe, structured and supportive learning environment.
  • Support pupils during lessons, break times and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and external agencies to promote positive outcomes.

Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges or additional needs.
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Experience in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching, care or support work is desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
