Job summary

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Behaviour Mentor to join a Pupil Referral Unit in Tameside from September. This is a full-time, term-time only role supporting secondary-aged pupils with emotional, behavioural and pastoral needs to help them engage with learning.

You will build positive relationships, support behaviour and emotional regulation, deliver 1:1 and small group interventions, and work with teachers to create a safe, structured environment where every pupil can

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a dedicated SEMH Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Tameside from September. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with secondary-aged pupils who have experienced barriers to education and require additional emotional, behavioural and pastoral support to help them succeed.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Support students in managing their behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to improve engagement and confidence.
  • Encourage positive choices and resilience both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to implement behaviour support strategies.
  • Promote a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or additional needs.
  • Has a calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Can confidently build professional relationships with pupils who may struggle to trust adults.
  • Is passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to reach their potential.
  • Has experience in education, youth work, residential care, coaching, mentoring, support work or similar roles (desirable but not essential).
