Job summary

WSP is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to design protection and control solutions for EHV substations (11 kV to 400 kV). You could be based in Newcastle, Stockton-on-Tees, Leeds or Manchester with travel to client sites as required.

Responsibilities include producing design drawings, developing protection solutions, integrating SCADA, and creating calculations and equipment specifications with regular site involvement.

Qualifications

• HNC Electrical Engineering required.
• Experience designing protection and control schemes.
• Knowledge of electrical networks and standards.
• Experience with ABB/Hitachi/Siemens/GE substation equipment.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
• Full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Produce protection and control design drawings for 11–132 kV systems.
• Develop new protection solutions for future smart grids.
• Integrate protection and SCADA systems for cost-effective designs.
• Create engineering calculations and related documentation.
• Provide equipment specifications support.
• Visit sites to assess project requirements.
• Attend site meetings and update designs as needed.
• Review supplier and client designs for compliance.
