Job summary

Deploy Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Protection and Control Design Engineer to lead HV substation designs for UK power infrastructures. You will mentor juniors, work with project managers, and ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance across schemes up to 132kV.

You will develop protection, control, and SCADA designs, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and clients. The role supports hybrid or remote work with project delivery responsibility.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven experience in control and protection design in UK electricity distribution or transmission (11kV–132kV, 400kV).
• Familiarity with protection relays, relay configuration, logic programming and IEC 61850 engineering.
• Knowledge of ENA, IEC and NPg standards and NPg requirements advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop protection application designs for feeders, transformers, and busbars (11 kV–132 kV).
• Configure relays, create setting files, IEC 61850/DNP3 schemes, and programming docs.
• Prepare CT/VT specifications, panels, and wiring per NPg standards.
• Provide technical reviews of designs from ICPs/external teams.
• Conduct protection coordination studies and create settings calculations.
• Support project delivery including FAT and site commissioning.
