Job summary

WSP in the UK seeks a Protection & Control Engineer to design protection and SCADA-ready solutions for EHV substations from 11kV to 400kV, including AIS & GIS configurations. You could be based in Newcastle, Stockton-on-Tees, Leeds or Manchester with the flexibility to travel to client offices and sites across the UK.

Qualifications

• HNC Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Proven experience in protection and control scheme design.
• Knowledge of electrical networks and engineering standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical design documentation.
• Familiarity with major substation protection equipment (ABB/Hitachi, Siemens, GE).
• Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols.
• Full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Create protection and control drawings for 11kV to 132kV systems.
• Develop protection solutions for future smart grid requirements.
• Integrate protection with SCADA to deliver cost-effective designs.
• Prepare engineering calculations and documentation.
• Produce equipment specifications.
• Visit project sites to assess requirements.
• Attend site meetings and support design changes during construction.
