Job summary

A reputable construction subcontractor in London is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to oversee wastewater projects. The successful candidate will manage end-to-end project delivery, ensuring compliance with regulations and quality standards. Ideal applicants will have a degree in Civil Engineering and experience in utilities projects. This initial 5-month contract offers a central London location and weekly payments.

Job description

Randstad are recruiting for a Project Engineer with water utilities experience to join a highly regarded subcontractor for work on Thames Water upgrade project in East London.

This is initially a 5 month short term contract with a high likelihood of winning additional project phases expected to last another 1‑1.5 years.

Payment is weekly via CIS.

Key Requirements & Experience 🛠️
  • We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in civil engineering and project delivery, ideally within the water/wastewater industry.
  • Proven experience as a Project Engineer in the civils sector ideally delivering wastewater infrastructure projects (e.g., utilities diversions, isolations, pumping stations, pipelines, treatment plant upgrades, and network maintenance).
  • Highly Desirable: Previous experience working for a Utilities Subcontractor or on projects directly within the Thames Water operational area/framework.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in project planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and the supervision of site works.
  • Compliance: Excellent understanding of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations within a live utility environment (e.g., CDM Regulations, confined spaces).
  • Qualifications: A degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Core Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of assigned wastewater projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Project Management: Manage all project stages from initial design review through to construction and final handover.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients (e.g., Thames Water), subcontractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Site Oversight: Oversee site activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality control, and rigorous safety protocols.
  • Commercial Management: Monitor project expenditure, manage variations, and assist with procurement processes for materials and services.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular progress reports, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or HNC equivalent.
  • Experience working for a Main contractor or subcontractor on a civils and or utilities package (Sewer / Water Experience highly desirable).
  • CSCS Card.
