Job summary

JPMorgan Chase is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead infrastructure platforms engineering and AI practices in the UK. You design platforms and services meeting access, compliance, and governance needs while enabling scalable, secure development across teams.

You will shape architecture, standards, and tooling, guide senior engineers, and partner with risk and platform teams to embed safe, auditable patterns leveraging AI capabilities for reporting and validation.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and applied experience.
• Proven ownership of complex, production-grade systems in large enterprise environments.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, C++, Go, or Scala.
• Experience with AI assistants in software engineering including agentic capabilities.
• Experience guiding engineering practices across teams for identity and security patterns.
• Understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows and governance.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build governance-by-design patterns and libraries embedding policy controls and evidence collection.
• Create standards and tooling (CLI, SDKs, libraries, templates, automated checks) for compliant identity solutions.
• Partner with platform owners to ensure continuous compliance reporting is embedded.
• Integrate AI capabilities so standard patterns include agent-ready identity constructs.
• Drive engineering excellence through design reviews, reference architectures, coding standards, performance benchmarking.
• Coach engineers and foster a culture of quality, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with identity architects, platform engineers, and risk partners to embed best-in-class solutions.
• Architect and govern agentic AI-enabled workflows to improve delivery, code quality, and efficiency at scale.
• Apply SDLC toolchain knowledge to improve value from automation at scale.
