Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Mechanical Discipline Lead to oversee the mechanical engineering discipline within a UK water framework. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will steer technical direction, own deliverable quality, and manage junior staff.

You will coordinate resources and collaborate with client stakeholders to resolve technical issues and blockers. The role offers opportunities to shape innovations, align with AMP8 framework requirements, and develop talent within the team.

Qualifications

• Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution.
• Proven ability to lead a portfolio of technical projects and develop less experienced staff.
• Demonstrable experience in infra and non‑infra mechanical design.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration across internal multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Drive to stay current with professional development and emerging solutions.
• Good understanding of designers' responsibilities under CDM.
• Willingness to travel regularly for client meetings.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for technical quality of deliverables and staff competency.
• Challenge client's technical standards and manage waivers/deviations.
• Ensure discipline duties as a Designer under CDM are discharged.
• Coordinate mechanical resources across the framework with design managers.
• Maintain relationships with client technical stakeholders.
