Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Mechanical Discipline Lead to drive the mechanical engineering function within a large UK water framework. You will guide technical direction, ensure quality of deliverables, and manage problem solving across engineers and consultants.

You will maintain key client relationships and support delivery to programme targets. The role offers opportunities to innovate, develop talent, and contribute to AMP8 programme delivery in water and wastewater across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Chartered Status (CEng) with a recognised Professional Institution.
• Proven ability to lead a portfolio of technical projects, ensuring QA and standards.
• Demonstrable technical experience in infra and non-infra mechanical design.
• Strong communication and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and knowledge of solutions.
• Good understanding of designers’ responsibilities under CDM.
• Flexibility to travel regularly for client meetings.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for technical quality of deliverables within the discipline and for staff competency.
• Challenge client technical standards and approvals, including waivers and deviations.
• Ensure compliance with CDM when discharging duties as a Designer.
• Coordinate mechanical resources across the framework with design managers and project leads.
• Develop relationships and maintain communication with client technical stakeholders.
