Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited is seeking a Principal Hydraulic Engineer to lead a hydraulic design team and deliver complex water/ wastewater projects within the D&AT Practice. You will guide technical delivery, mentor juniors, and ensure high-quality outputs across UK and international assignments.

The role requires Chartered or Incorporated status, strong communication, and extensive experience in hydraulic design, surge analysis and design codes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Process Engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.
• Experience coordinating hydraulic design delivery in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic design for water/wastewater, pipelines and surge analysis.
• Proficiency with design codes and reports such as WIMES, S07 and HR Wallingford.
• Water market experience essential.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
• Excellent communication within multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate or manage a team of Hydraulic engineers for delivery of design work on complex projects.
• Produce and review design reports, hydraulic calculations, drawings and surge models.
• Provide technical input into project designs and manage time/budgets to milestones.
• Collaborate with client, operations and project teams.
• Mentor less experienced colleagues and grow team capabilities.
• Provide technical support for bids and proposals.
• Work with UK and overseas teams to deliver integrated designs.
• Adhere to QA standards and review work.
