Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead HV electrical engineering, shaping technical excellence and directing a high-performing team. The role offers exposure to FEED, detailed design and bid submissions across UK projects, with client-facing responsibilities and travel as required.

You will be based in one of our offices in the UK, joining a collaborative environment that values diversity, development, and flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical teams in complex engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of HV electrical systems and substations.
• Bids and cost estimates for FEED and detail design.
• Familiarity with IEC/IEEE electrical standards.
• Excellent communication with clients and internal teams.
• Willingness to travel to client sites when required.
• Ability to manage tight deadlines and competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for HV substations.
• Line-manage engineers, mentor, and develop talent.
• Oversee quality assurance of FEED, design, and bid submissions.
• Review HV plant layouts, earthing, interlocks, and busbars.
• Coordinate interfaces with back-office, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Lead tender management for HV plant packages.
• Chair design and hazard reviews; participate in site visits.
• Maintain and grow client relationships and identify new work.
• Support business development efforts.
