Job summary

WSP in Exeter is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex geotechnical projects and mentor a team of engineers and geologists. You will shape ground models and provide expert design solutions across a diverse portfolio, working with multidisciplinary teams on major infrastructure schemes.

You will manage project delivery, safeguard quality and risk, foster client relationships and contribute to business development.

Qualifications

• Strong technical background in geotechnical engineering and engineering geology.
• Experience delivering complex geotechnical design and analysis across sectors.
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery and manage project risks.
• Excellent stakeholder management and client relationship skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical lead on complex geotechnical projects and provide oversight.
• Lead development of ground models, geotechnical assessments and designs.
• Perform advanced geotechnical analysis for foundations, earthworks and slopes.
• Manage project delivery including programme, cost, quality and risk.
• Lead client relationships and support business development activities.
• Plan and oversee ground investigations and interpret data for design.
• Mentor engineers and geologists, supporting career development.
• Contribute to bidding, methodologies and fee proposals.
• Promote innovation, sustainability and digital delivery in projects.
• Collaborate across disciplines and regions on major infrastructure schemes.
