Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Principal Engineer – Electrical Plant based in Scotland, with responsibility for shaping technical policy and supporting delivery of high-voltage transmission projects. You will own specifications for substation plant and act as a Technical Authority for new plant approvals.

Candidates should hold an Electrical Engineering degree with Chartered status or working towards it, and have strong experience of AIS, GIS and FACTS/HVDC at 145 kV+ transmission levels.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
• Strong design, testing and application knowledge of electrical plant at transmission voltages 145 kV+.

Responsibilities

• Own and improve technical specifications for substation electrical plant (GIS, circuit breakers, transformers, HVDC, FACTS).
• Act as Technical Authority for new plant approvals, reviewing designs and type testing.
• Support Design Authority reviews for safe, compliant substation designs.
• Collaborate with engineering, asset, operations, system design and manufacturers to resolve technical challenges.
• Provide technical consultancy, mentor colleagues and represent SSEN Transmission in industry forums.
• Represent SSEN Transmission at industry events and bring back insights to strengthen engineering.
