Job summary
SSEN Transmission, part of SSE plc, is seeking a Principal Engineer – Transformers to define technical policy and support innovative HV projects across the transmission network. Based in Scotland, you will own specifications for wound plant, review test plans and witness testing, while providing SME input and industry representation.
The role requires Chartered Engineer status and expert experience in grid transformers, HVDC transformers, and related equipment, with a focus on safe, reliable
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with Chartered Engineer status.
- Expert-level experience in design and application of transmission voltage wound plant (grid transformers, HVDC converter transformers, etc.).
- Ability to assess issues, evaluate technical solutions, and apply in-depth knowledge of wound plant design, planning, installation, operation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of National Grid, British and European Standards; capable of writing technical specifications and guidance for wound plant.
- Experience in manufacturing and testing of transmission voltage wound plant would be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Write, maintain and own technical specifications and guidance notes for electrical wound plant, including transformers and related equipment.
- Review existing specifications and update them based on lessons learned and technology developments.
- Review test plans and proposed suppliers to confirm suitability for the transmission network.
- Witness testing, carry out technical audits, and provide SME input to design reviews.
- Provide technical consultancy and represent SSEN Transmission at industry events and in working groups.
