Job summary
SSEN Transmission is seeking a Principal Engineer – Electrical Plant based in Scotland. You will own and improve technical specifications for substation electrical plant, act as Technical Authority, support design reviews and collaborate across engineering, asset and manufacturing teams to resolve challenges.
You should hold a degree in Electrical Engineering and be a Chartered Engineer or working towards it, with strong experience in AIS/GIS, transformers, and FACTS/HVDC at 145 kV+ transmission
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
- Strong design, specification, testing and application experience for electrical plant (AIS, GIS, instrument transformers, FACTS/HVDC).
- Experience with transmission voltage levels of 145 kV and above and knowledge of relevant standards.
Responsibilities
- Own and improve technical specifications for substation electrical plant (AIS, GIS, transformers, HVDC, FACTS).
- Act as Technical Authority for new plant approvals; review designs and type testing.
- Support Design Authority reviews to ensure safety, compliance and fit-for-purpose designs.
- Collaborate with engineering, asset, operations, system design and manufacturers to resolve technical challenges.
- Provide technical consultancy, mentor colleagues and represent SSEN Transmission in industry forums.
- Represent SSEN Transmission and/or the UK at industry events and bring back insights to strengthen engineering.
