Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to support the Renewables & Transmission & Distribution energy teams across the UK. The role covers feasibility through to construction supervision, with deployment to multiple offices including Edinburgh and Bristol, under a flexible hybrid model.

You will lead technical design across onshore wind, hydro, grid infrastructure, and BESS, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.

Qualifications

• BEng (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering required.
• Chartered status or working towards chartership with relevant institution desirable.
• Experience delivering complex multi-disciplinary projects for the Energy Transition is highly desirable.
• Experience in UK Transmission & Distribution projects (11KV - 400KV) is highly desirable.
• Role requires strong technical competency in civil/structural design.
• Engineering skills complemented by report writing and organisational abilities.

Responsibilities

• Act as lead verifier on reports including technical feasibility studies and design reports.
• Liaise with clients, manage project work on a day-to-day basis within timescales and budgets.
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams and lead civil infrastructure design (roads, drainage, external works).
• Prepare and review calculations, detailed design drawings and specifications compliant with UK standards.
• Conduct site inspections and respond to technical queries.
• Produce high-quality reports (feasibility, inspection, design documentation).
• Mentor and guide junior staff.
