Job summary

St Mary's Catholic Primary School is seeking a Class/SEN Teaching Assistant to join on a fixed term contract until July 2027. The role runs 32.5 hours per week during term time (38 weeks), Monday to Friday, 8.30am–3.30pm, starting 3 November 2026.

Key duties include supporting teachers, aiding pupils with SEN, addressing barriers to learning, supervising at lunch and play, and safeguarding in line with school policies.

Qualifications

• Numeracy and literacy skills are required.
• Reasonable IT skills are expected.
• Experience of working with children, in a primary school setting, is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist class teachers and senior leaders to provide a secure, caring environment for each child.
• Support pupils with Special Educational Needs as part of the class team.
• Address barriers to learning to help pupils reach their potential and maintain high standards.
• Supervise children at lunch and playtimes to ensure safety and wellbeing.
• Follow child protection procedures and safeguarding policies.
